Programma is an English-language art magazine published in Israel. Programma – a private initiative launched in the fall of 2009 with no government or institutional funding – was born out of the need for a dialogue between creators and consumers of art, a dialogue that hardly exists in Israel today, despite the great developments in the field. Programma was also born out of the need for a dialogue between Israel and the outside world, the need to open channels of communication between those working and residing in Israel and their counterparts in the global village. It was this double goal that prompted the launch of a new magazine at a time when more and more magazines are shutting down: to give voice to all those who regard art as a necessary part of life and are searching for a place to meet, discuss, argue and promote artistic endeavors; also, in the context of the constant upheaval Israel experiences, Programma is adamant about giving voice to those who urgently feel the need to negate tendencies of seclusion, paranoia and fortification, and who wish Israel to open doors to the world and be part of an international discourse. Needless to say, Programma sees the marriage of art and politics as a natural one. We do not believe in categorizing art vs. life. We believe that especially in Israel, especially today, when we investigate art we delve into all aspects of human thought and behavior. |
